Baseline

Say it ain’t so!  We’re coming to the close of another FirstGlance Film Festival and we’re happy and honored to bring the extraordinary work of indie filmmakers to Philly for another year.

Don’t miss Sunday, October 17^th’s 7:00 Closing Night screening and the North American Premiere of the UK feature film “Baseline” about the bouncer of a tough East London nightclub and the choices he has to make as his life falls apart.  “Baseline,” directed by Brendon O’Loughlin, screens with the Shot in Philly short, “Rats in the City,” by John Wolfe, about a Philly punk who is forced to choose between his deep roots with his friends in the punk community and making his father’s memory proud by joining the army. Also screening are the World Premieres of the short dark comedy “Love Me Tender” by Matthew Morgenthaler and the music video “Switch Hit Resistor” by Adam Sztykiel.

The festival wraps with a party at Drinker’s Pub, 1903 Chestnut Street after the late screening.  See you there!

We’d like to thank everyone who came out in the rain for our Opening Night screening and party.

The night’s special guests included Sharon Pinkenson, Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, actress Leah Cevoli from Robot Chicken, host Nic Baisley from Film Snobbery, actor Rudy Jones, local filmmakers Joshua Coyne, director of the music video “Next Episode,” and Greg Koorhan, director of the short film “Level Up.”  A special thank you goes out to our filmmakers who travelled abroad to get here.  They include Sheraiah Larcher, the London based writer and producer from the feature film “Baseline,” and French director Etienne Goldet from the short film “Freaky Saturday Night Fever.”

Alex & The Ghosts

Sunday’s matinee features a little bit of everything for the true movie lover.  The short film “Level Up” by Philly’s own Greg Koorhan makes its World Premiere and screens with the mini-doc “Bike and Build:  Be the Change,” the animated shorts “PING” and “Alex and the Ghosts,” and the shorts “Little Big Kid” and “S & M.”

Sunday’s twilight screening has the feature documentary “10 Mountains 10 Years” by Philly native Jennifer Yee, the short film “The Show” and animated short “Sketchi.”

If you’re attending either of the early shows Sunday, you can come out to Drinker’s Pub, 1903 Chestnut Street, after the late closing night screening of the feature film “Baseline” to meet visiting and local filmmakers, cast and crew.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to go see a movie. Forget about the dry cleaners, the yard work, and food shopping, and come out to see something a little different you don’t usually get to see in your corner AMC.  Saturday matinee and twilight screenings feature a great mix of premiere short films and documentaries you’ll see first at FirstGlance.

Saturday’s matinee features the mini-docs “Sand,”starring the emerging tap artist Kenji Igus and his father, and “The Creation of Torrit Smoke,” about artist Blakely Dadson. You’ll also see the short films “The Cycle,” “One Day,” and “Jesus Comes to Town” playing at 3:30.

Saturday’s twilight screening has the feature documentary “What Does Trouble Mean?” by PA filmmaker Jim Seguin and the shorts “Squatter” and “You Know Where to Find Me.” 

If you make the matinee or twilight shows on Saturday afternoon, be sure to come out and party with our filmmakers and guests after Saturday’s late night screening of “Consent” at The Mission Grill, 1835 Arch Street.

Three of our local filmmakers screening over the weekend are mentioned in the Montgomery News today, Greg Koorhan, director of the short film “Level Up,” Jennifer Yee*, director of the documentary “10 Mountains 10 Years,” and Ron Farrar Brown, director of the feature “Consent,” starring Troian Avery Bellasario from ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” and Kate Burton, nominated for an Emmy for her role as Ellis Grey in “Grey’s Anatomy.” “Consent” screens on Saturday late night so check it out!

Animation lovers – Friday night’s screening is for you!

Friday night’s feature is a labor of love from Philadelphia director Michael P. Heneghan. Over the course of three years, “The Romantic” went from an idea to an animated feature film making its World Premiere at FirstGlance. Don’t miss it!

Philadelphia Premieres of the animated music video “Golem” and the animated short film “The Lift” screen as well, along with the Philadelphia Premiere of the short, “The Macabre World of Lavender Williams,” starring Lily Jackson, Rex Linn, Christopher Lloyd, Kelly Sheerin.

A party follows the screening at The Mission Grill 1835 Arch Street.

I can’t believe it’s festival week already!  After many, many months of preparation and promotion, it’s finally time for Philly’s indie film event of the year.  Thursday, October 14^th at 8:00 PM is Opening Night and from the emails I’ve received, it looks like many filmmakers, cast, and crew, as well as special invited guests, are coming out to the fest all weekend.

Be sure to come out on Thursday to see the Philadelphia premiere of the feature film “Charlie Valentine” in the theater before it gets released on DVD in the next couple months.  “Charlie Valentine” stars Raymond J. Barry, Michael Weatherly, James Russo, Maxine Bahn, Tom Berenger, Steven Bauer, and Keith David.

After the screening, FirstGlance attendees will party at Noche, 1901 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia.  Don’t miss it!

Winners in web pilot category to premiere on KoldCast TV
